The history of Weber Road Church of Christ began with the Furman and Staples Church of Christ, which was for many years the only congregation of the Lord's church in Corpus Christi.

The nucleus of the Furman Avenue church originated in 1898 with the members meeting in homes, then for a while in the old Courthouse. The first permanent meeting place was on Leopard Street. In 1907 the church moved to Furman and Staples in a small wooden building which was destroyed in the 1919 hurricane. A stucco building was erected in 1920 and enlarged in about 1925.
As the years passed and the membership increased the need for more space became necessary. A group left and started a congregation in Hillcrest and some years later merged with Annaville to become the Arlington Heights Church of Christ. The old Hillcrest building was then used by the black brethren. In about 1932 another group left and started what is now Ayers Street Church of Christ. In 1949 some of the Furman Avenue members joined others in starting the Norton Street Church of Christ. In 1955 others helped start Windsor Park Church of Christ. Our facilities were still inadequate, including parking space, and there was no way to enlarge the building at Furman and Staples. The church purchased the Weber Road property. At this time it seemed we would be out in the country but the area soon began to build up around us. Soon everything was ready for groundbreaking and construction to begin. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held in October 1959 and construction began that same month. Construction was completed in May 1960. The move from Furman and Staples was completed and we met for the first time in our new church home January 8, 1960. Brother Henry McBroom was our preacher at this time and he moved with us to Weber Road. He was with us from 1959 to the end of 1963. Brother George Pledger was hired and began work on February 1, 1964. His wife, Evelyn, became the church secretary several years later. George and Evelyn retired in 2010 after serving for 46 years!

In June of 2010, brother Mark Hammitt, who was youth minister for 20 years, was hired and began work as pulpit minister. Mark and his wife, Denise, seek to serve our family of God in any way needed. Brother Christian Torres and his wife, Brittany, came to Weber Road on January 1, 2012 to work with our youth and families. They are a welcomed addition to our church family. Kevin Hunt began serving as our Minister of Evangelism in 2011. Kevin coordinates our organized evangelistic efforts and the training of our members to conduct personal Bible studies. Kevin and his wife, Lexy, have a love for sharing the Gospel with others! Our current Elders and their wives are Dale & Shelly Alexander, Grant & Randi Jackson, and Randy & Jonizo Calloway. Our Deacons and their wives are: Larry & Sylvia Sanchez, Wayne & June Campbell, Jim & Judy Crowe, Bruce & Elizabeth Elam, Justin & Regina Esslinger, Paul & Fran Eubanks, Art & Lidia Gatica, Gary & Donna Hannah, Russell & Charlene Hooten, and Manuel & Maurine Mungia. As it says in the Bible, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Mark 16:15, for many years Weber Road has worked fervently to spread the gospel by various means;such as, supporting scores of dedicated men to become preachers while they attend the Southwest School of Bible Studies (Austin, TX); supporting missionaries and works around the globe (including Australia, India, Honduras, Ghana, Russia, New Zealand, Columbia, and Jamaica); missionaries in the US (including Colorado and Wisconsin), preaching the gospel through local TV programs and Bible correspondence courses which have have resulted in baptizing many lost souls.

We have approximately 280 people attend each Sunday morning. Worship assemblies and Bible class times are Sundays at 9:00 AM for Bible classes, 10:00 AM for Morning Worship, 6:00 AM for Evening Worship and Children's Bible Hour; Wednesdays at 10:00 AM for Ladies Bible class (during school year) and at 7:00 PM for Bible classes and a devotional.
